NOTE: It took the National Guard 8 days to get to our little town. We had no electricity for 8 days. Stores were flooded out! NO ATMS, NO passage on the roads. BUG spray and water bottles were given to each family once the Nat’l Guard arrived. Flooding is dangerous. Snakes and gators found their way into our homes and yards.

You need to understand.. Category 1 or 2 we do not evacuate. You may lose power for a period of time. YOU MUST HAVE A SUPPLY…. batteries, un-perishable foods. CASH. Stores may not have power to operate tellers. You must have diapers, wipes and WATER TO DRINK!

SOME BUY A NEW GARBAGE CAN AND FILLS IT WTH CLEAN WATER PRIOR TO THE STORM.

You must choose NOW a route out of town on back roads! The hwy is a traffic jam. As soon as you are told to evacuate LEAVE!!!!

Have your IMPORTANT PAPERS ready to go in a moments notice!!

NOTE: My family members each have their own back pack. Inside contains snacks, flashlights, clean underwear, tooth brushes , tooth paste. In the adults back packs feminine products, IMPORTANT DOCUMENTS IN A ZIPLOCK WATER PROOF BAG.

In this bag you need:

  • Birth certificates
  • Marriage cert.
  • Divorce papers
  • Adoption papers
  • Passports
  • CD of photos.

MAKE a CD …photo’s of all your property. Some houses will flood inside to the roof.

GET YOUR RENTERS Insurance NOW!!! Insurance companies will stop issuing policies during hurricane threats. You cannot decide to get insurance when a storm has been named!

ALWAYS keep your car above 1/2 tank in the hurricane season. MANY cars run out of gas when evacuating . GAS stations run out of gas.

BUY now!!!! Get your items needed for your backpacks or hurricane kits! It can be costly to wait!

STORES will EMPTY shelves once a storm is announced! Wal-Mart and Target will be emptied within hours! Store it now!!!!

REMEMBER to call the hotel !!!!! Hotels will book up quickly. As soon as you hear that the storm is making landfall in our area.. CALL A HOTEL IN YOU DESTINATION AND BOOK THAT ROOM!

RETURNING TO YOUR HOME: YOU MUST CARRY IN YOUR LEGAL DOCUMENTS A BILL SHOWING THAT YOU LIVE IN THAT HOME!!!! THE POLICE /NATIONAL GUARD WILL ASK YOU TO SHOW PROOF THAT YOU LIVE IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD…. DON’T FORGET YOU WILL WANT TO GET BACK INTO YOUR HOME.

Hurricanes are unpredictable! Do not plan a trip to Walt Disney. We have seen storms turn direction unexpectedly.. and people have been stuck.

HEAD NORTH AWAY FROM THE STORM.
